Interviewing...interviewing

Ahh the life of an admissions counselor....always interviewing others for positions in our office. The last couple of committees I have served on have been in athletics and I must admit, interviewing is getting kind of old. When I first started here...5 and 1/2 years ago it was exciting to serve on interview committees. In fact, I loved being the chair of the first one, hiring Becky! But now, having helped hire Katie, Gustavo, Michael, Natalie, Brian and Alex (not to mention some in athletics) I need a break.

I am currently serving on my third athletics committee of the year and I have to say, people stop leaving! Stop getting fired! After the hiring comes the training and I'm tired of the learning curve. Yes, I know that is selfish of me, but seriously! I'm ready for some stability. I'm ready for some consistency. and I'm ready to stop filling out interview papers and sharing my feedback. Maybe the freeze will push back the interviews for Inda's position....or maybe I won't have to participate.

the guinea pig movie

My lovely little girls (well Delaney mostly) have really wanted to see G-Force. Although my parents always seemed to take me to movies I really wanted to see, G-Force is just not something that I can get excited about, even for Laney. Sooo...she called Uncle Travis yesterday (who just happens to be coming home for the weekend this weekend) and asked him if he could bring her to see the movie. She added the perfect little "puhleeeasse" at the end which I'm sure sealed the deal (well actually not...Uncle Travis LOVES his nieces and LOVES to make them happy). So on Sunday, Uncle Travis, Laney and Alie will be headed to G-Force.

In other news, my wonderful husband booked all of our sit-down meals for our upcoming Disney trip. He was able to get all of the restaurants we wanted, at the times we wanted, on the nights we wanted. So now, I just have to wait until the end of October.

its almost the weekend!

It's Friday! It's Friday! It's Friday! Woohoo!!!!

For some reason I have been craving the weekend this week. Alie asked last night if Carl and I would be staying home today...so sweet. I love that they love spending time with us as much as we love spending time with them. Alie is currently obsessed with "bad guys"...which can be definited as a witch, monster, ghost or really anyone who is mean or nasty to others. However, "bad guys" don't necessarily need to be bad. A good witch would still be defined, in Alie's mind, as a bad guy. She loves to play this game with her Daddy, where he chases her around the living room, kitchen and dining room while she screams and runs away. She always requests to play while we are cleaning up for dinner. Who do you think that leaves to finish the cleaning ;) Laney has started playing too, rescuing her sister. Too funny!

This weekend we are moving the furniture around in the living room. It works well to watch tv right now, but not for chatting. That has been annoying me. We're going to fix that. Other than that we're headed to Uncle Danny's for dinner on Saturday. Should be nice and relaxing!

addition to earlier blog

I have been doing a various assortment of tasks at work recently: helping out with orientation, cleaning up last minute athletic files and planning my fall travel. I have spent the afternoon researching potential high school in CT to visit, and have come across a couple of different suggested summer reading lists. I have enjoyed reading the recommendations, some I have read, some are already on my "to read" list and others I jotted down as potential future reads. Ah...another perk of my job ;)

health forms are in

yes...my daughters are taking the next step towards preschool. I have gotten their health forms in on time. Now, Carl and I just have to finish filling out the forms detailing emergency contact information and which committees we are interested in serving on and we're all set....well other than the backpack, lunch box, school supplies and stuff for naps. I guess I should say that we're moving in the right direction.

The girls helped me peel hideous paint of the kitchen window on Tuesday. We are slowly but surely still trying to correct some of the hideous decor statements from the previous owners. The kitchen door was terrible...it is suprising that it took me 4 years to tackle it. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the fabric I ordered to make new kitchen curtains and a cover for the kitchen message board....unfortunately, I pre-ordered the fabric (although it is PERFECT) so I will have to wait a little while.

i strongly dislike...

no make that HATE zits. I had a terrible problem with acne beginning in my middle school years, lasting well through my upper school years. Finally, at the end of my senior year, they disappeared (after perhaps trying all non-prescription creams and prescription creams and meds). But now the zits are back. Aren't I a little old to be getting them? BFF Cirucci explains to me that zits on different parts of my face mean different things. I think she told me once that zits on my chin meant that I was stressed. Well, I have one of those painful under-the-skin kinds between my chin and my lips (not quite sure what that part of your face is called). Ugh! And it has shown up sometime this afternoon since I was at the dermatologist this morning and would have most certainly asked for recommendations to clear these pesky things away. Of course, I was sidetracked by the usual anxiety my annual skin check brings (woohoo, everything checked out fine).

Anyhow, hopefully this newest facial flaw will go away relatively quickly, as I HATE zits!

Did I mention...?

That I'm having a wonderful time this summer? It has been so relaxing thus far and the weather has been lovely! The lovely-ness has even seemed to make the work weeks go faster! For example, Wednesday night we went on a nice long walk to Target to pick up some bread and saran wrap. The girls ate popsicles on the way...it was just sooo summer. Last night, Cirucci came over for the perfect summer dinner: brats, corn on the cob, baked seasoned tomatoes and brownies! We enjoyed dinner and then escaped to the cooler family room to play a little Candyland.

This summer, I have also been preparing the girls for pre-school. They will be starting this fall, 2 full days each week (hopefully transitioning to three full days when/if two spots open up). Earlier this week I dropped off the small book that is their required health/immunization forms to their pediatricians office. Did you know that we need to sign a waiver allowing one of their teachers to help them put sunscreen on after nap? CRAZY!!! Anyway, Laney is completely psyched about preschool. She is excited to learn and play with the other kids. Alie is not excited at all and has stated on numerous occasions that she will NOT being going to school. Hmmm...this might be a problem. We're trying to talk it up.

relaxing weekend at home...again :)

We enjoyed another relaxing weekend at home! Laney and I picked Travis and Nicole up from the bus station on Friday evening. Laney really enjoyed having some one on one time with me...which is always nice. We checked out some things at the mall too. She was such a good girl and had lots to say! On Saturday we did nothing. I ran out Saturday afternoon to pick a few things up at the grocery store...but other than that we spent the day laying low. Sunday was definitely a super fun day! We headed out back to the picnic table to do some finger painting. Laney filled her entire page with lots of color. Alie was more focused with the placement of her paints and applied it in smaller areas. Both really loved the project.

After painting, we created a mini resort in the backyard (as we do most weekends). We spent the rest of the morning into the early afternoon in the alligator pool or relaxing in the lawn chairs. Carl and I sipped margaritas while the girls enjoyed ice cream sandwiches. After naptime, the girls enjoyed playtime with Uncle Travis and Aunt Nicole. Laney cried when it was time to drop them off at the bus station. This time I took Alie. As I was laying in bed last night I watched "Music and Lyrics"...I LOVE the beginning scene with Hugh Grant in the 80's wham style music video. It cracks me up everytime I watch it!!

I also thought about how life for my children is different than my life was when I was there age (not that I remember being 3.5 all that much). While my mom had (still has) a best friend and I have spent a lot of time with her as I have grown up, I didn't spend nearly as much time with her as my girls spend with my friends. I bring my girls everywhere with me. I remember going to work with both of my parents as a child, but I don't remember going to quite as many "social" functions. Perhaps the biggest change for them is the way that we communicate with family. Laney and Alie generally see their Auntie Mindy and Uncle Danny twice a month. We spend the night at Danny and Mindy's house at least once a month. They talk to Uncle Travis and Aunt Nicole online a lot and see them (and spend time with them) whenever they are in town. We travel to see them too. Spending time with aunts and uncles is a priority in our lives and the girls are close with their family. We may not be able to spend holidays with our entire family each time, but that's ok because their family and close friends are always around them.

Sewing

Perhaps I have mentioned...perhaps not, my newest obsession: fabric! I have been working on finding/fabricating a pattern that allows me to use the beautiful fabric I purchased alongside some of my old sorority shirts to create a quilt/comforter for the future guest room bed. In findng the perfect fabric, Claire introduced me to some great fabric sites, which lead me to some other great fabric sites...and now i'm addicted. I just purchased patterns to make different everyday use items, so beware...if you are my friend and I generally give you gifts for your birthday or christmas...you will most likely be getting something I have sewn for you!

I had my haircut yesterday. I am really excited because it is actually in a "style". Its super short, but has the side-swept bang look. I love it!

Wonderful weekend!

We had another wonderful (long) weekend! We moved out of the Cirucci/Myers household and back into our own home, just visiting the cats to feed them and hang out for a bit. We had a weekend full of down time at home, just grilling and hanging out in the backyard. The girls love playing in their alligator pool and with their water table. They even helped daddy wash his car yesterday afternoon. I think they had more bubbles on themselves than on the car, but that's ok. I spent the weekend keeping an eye on the kiddos and reading. I managed to finish the sequel to Chocolat, which was great and really added to the first book and finish another book called Prep. We did head out to Carl's parents for crabs on Friday night and we walked over to the school on Saturday night for the fireworks (which the girls LOVED). I'm hoping for a similar weekend next week!

Work with mommy and "just" Brian at dinner

Yesterday was Louise's last day and it was sad. Louise is my mentor and my friend. She has given me so many opportunities and has taught me so much. I didn't want to miss her last day, so since it was Tuesday, I brought my kiddos to work. According to them, I work at the "Tiger office" and they always seem to love to join me. They colored, socialized and even played mini golf. I worked on athletics and went to marketing meetings. We all ate pizza. It worked out suprisingly well.

After I dropped the girlies off at my parents house for a sleepover, Brian L came over for dinner. We had so much fun....he ended up staying past 10!

Since my last post I have improved my diet ;) Carl and I have an evening alone tonight. I look forward to relaxing. We have Friday the 13th from Netflix right now and I'm looking forward to seeing that, getting some reading done and sewing some napkins. Do you think I'll have enough time to do it all?
